Google Earth never ceases to amaze me. From showing buildings in 3D to flying through driving directions, it seems like it does everything. Plus, the detail is getting so fine that you could spot your neighbor in his backyard, shirtless, enjoying a beer on a hot summer day.

But today’s tip does not involve alcohol nor backyards; it involves Apple Stores. Over at ifoAppleStore, someone called Brian created a file that makes all 178 of Apple’s retail locations appear in Google Earth, overlaid on top of the map, just like you would overlay cities and roads. Best of all, you can get information such as opening hours and phone number for any store by clicking it.

Just download the .kml file provided by ifoAppleStore and open it in Google Earth. You can control which stores appear in the entry called “Temporary Places”, located in the “Places” box on the left-hand side. When you quit the application, it’ll ask you if you want to save the information. Click Yes, and the Apple Stores are part of your virtual world for ever. Great for getting directions from your house to your nearest store, or realizing how many stores are on the US East coast.
