Save time at the Genius Bar with Quick Drop

Apple Store lineHere’s a quick tip that’s good to know: it’s called Quick Drop and it’s at an Apple Store near you. Basically this is a method you can use at the Genius Bar if you: 1) don’t feel like waiting in a 3-hour line, and 2) feel instant diagnosis isn’t a requirement. It goes like this:

  1. Show up at the Genius Bar with your computer. Assuming the condition of a long wait (95% of the time) you’ll be told the next appointment is a three hour wait. Alternatively you’ll be told to go home and come back the next morning, after having made an appointment at Apple.com/retail.
  2. If none of these options appease your thirst for technical support, refuse them all, making up excuses or the like.
  3. After seeing he has no other options, the Genius will pull out the glorious Quick Drop paper.
  4. Fill out the paper and leave your computer at the store. In 1-2 days you’ll receive a call from a Genius with a diagnosis and a quote.

There are two small catches to this mystical procedure: 1) you must either have AppleCare, or your machine must be less than 90 days old and 2) if you neither condition applies (or if your machine has physical damage), you’ll be hit with a $100 labor charge should you refuse repair.
