What I love best about Apple retail stores is how they’re creeping across the globe, infiltrating the formerly-impenetrable territory occupied by Best Buys, CompUSAs, and other occasionally-annoying electronics stores. Now Kentucky residents can get in on the fun, thanks to a new Apple Store coming to Oxmoor. The first Apple store for Kentucky won’t open until August in the Oxmoor shopping center on Shelbyville Road. Shopping center owners have reportedly been trying for several years to get Apple to open retail outlets in Louisville, Kentucky, according to The Courier-Journal. The store will take up approximately 5,000 square feet across from an Eddie Bauer store. Currently, the nearest Apple stores to Kentucky are in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Tennessee (Nashville).
Being an avid Mac/iPod user and living in Kentucky where most people still think Windows 95 is great, this is awesome. I am 2 hours from Louisville but sounds like an Apple Store is just the perfect reason for an afternoon in Louisville.
"Currently, the nearest Apple stores to Kentucky are in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Tennessee (Nashville)."
How kind of Ms. Marshall to clarify which store in Tennessee is closest to Kentucky. Evidently mentioning cities by their name only is perfectly permissible so long as the city isn't in the state of Tennessee.
There are actually two cities in Tennessee within a two hour drive to Kentucky, madam: Nashville (Green Hills) and Knoxville (West Town Mall). If you mean closest to Louisville then just say so.
Many people have speculated for years that Apple didn't come to Louisville to avoid destroying the business of a longtime Mac "evangelist" who owns a store called MacTown. Although I really like MacTown, I'm glad that Apple is coming to Oxmoor Center.
One last thing... to the guy in Kentucky who says Kentuckians think Windows 95 is great. You need to get out more! ;D
