More Apple Stores bound for the old world

European Apple StoresOne thing Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer and COO Tim Cook love to talk about on their quarterly financial conference calls—aside from their aspirations of some day forming a folk duo à la Flight of the Conchords—is just how spiffily Apple’s retail stores are doing, and what their plans are for the future.

A couple weeks back, as the pair gave their spiel, they discussed what the Apple Stores would be doing in 2008. Oppenheimer estimated that 35-40 stores would open in fiscal year 2008, including the first stores in China, which we heard tell of earlier this week.

At present, official Apple Stores only reside in five countries: the US, the UK, Canada, Japan, and one lonely store in Italy. Soon, however, that shall change, as Apple is currently advertising jobs for retail locations in Germany and Switzerland. We don’t have precise locations, other than the cities of Munich in Germany and Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland.

I wonder what the connection between those—hey, wait…those are all places I’ve been. Clearly, something suspicious is afoot.
