In only sixty years of existence, Israel managed to accomplish a lot in terms of technology. The Intel Pentium 4 processor chip, instant messaging, and voicemail are only a few items of a long list. But, one piece of modern high-tech has not fully graced Israel with its presence - Apple. Yes, Israel is one of many countries that Apple works with only through licensed Independent Marketing Companies (IMCs). This means that Apple does not have an official website for Israel, official support there, and, one of the most important of all, has no Apple Store. But, that’s all about to change.
iDigital, Apple’s Israeli ICM, is planning to open its first Apple Premium Reseller store in the Holy Land. iDigital doesn’t provide many details about the store (at least as far I could see with my limited knowledge of Hebrew), such as where or when it will open, though they are asking Israelis familiar with and knowledgeable about Macs and Apples to apply for a job, either as a Mac Specialist, Mac “Guru” (most likely the equivalent of a Genius), or Creative (the equivalent of Geniuses that work at the Creative Bar).
While this store is merely an authorized reseller, not an actual, full-fledged Apple Store, it is a big step forward for increasing Apple’s presence in a country ripe with young, hip, tech-oriented consumers.
B'Hashem (Thank God!)
No apple store. No iphone from the local carriers - including orange. thirty percent markup on prices. lousy bilingual support - 3rd party hebrew iphone support better than apple's macosx implementation. whatmore?
