Green-roofed Boston Apple Store greenlit

Back Bay Apple storeNew York may be the Big Apple, but to the cognoscenti, Boston is the Hub of the Universe (a tip: if trying to blend in, never ever call it Beantown and please make no references to “pahking your cah in Hahvahd Yahd”). And yet Boston has been devoid of an Apple Store presence until now. We’ve covered the process from architectural controversy to fire-escape debacle, but it now appears that the Boston Redevelopment Authority has approved all plans for the store’s construction.

According to the BRA (seriously, nobody looked closely at that acronym?), the 21,350 sq. ft. three-story building will take about a year to build and will “reference the general character and scale of the surrounding buildings and will incorporate a green roof and an enclosed mechanical penthouse.” The store will be located at 815 Boylston St. in the Back Bay area (despite what Google Maps claims, I believe it’s the building one to the left of the arrow, with the blue awnings).

Anyway, I have no idea what an “enclosed mechanical penthouse” involves, but it sounds awesome. Rest assured, we’ll be there on opening day, whenever it is.

Don't get all excited, I think enclosed mechanical penthouse just means the place on the roof where they hide the A/C units.

I apologize in advance for "flaming", but this irrelevant comment must be made! I went to school in Boston and am still stuck here for a few months, and I think this is a TERRIBLE city. The public transportation is atrocious, the people are rude, and the city is filthy. The only people who like living here are those that have never been to a better city! "Boston is the Hub of the Universe" – oh, please!
