This morning, Apple held a special press event for journalists to go into the new 5th Avenue Apple Store before it opened. Even though no one here at MacUser got to go, our friends over at Macworld did. According to the Macworld article, the 10,000 square-foot store will be open 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year. The store is one level underground, which can be accessed via a spiral staircase within the impressive glass cube on the surface. The new store will also feature a forty-five foot Genius Bar staffed by 300 different “geniuses,” 96 of which will be full-time. Plus, for the first 24 hours after its opening, there will be hourly MacBook giveaways at the store. Unfortunately, the 5th Avenue store does lack a theater, which appears in many large Apple Stores including Apple’s first NYC store in SoHo. Still, I really enjoy the idea of an “always-on” Apple Store that saves me a long and complicated subway trip down to SoHo.

That sucks. I would figure that this store, which is open 24/7, would have a nice theatre. Think about it. They would offer some special movies during late hours. Not porn or anything like that. Just some educational flicks. Maybe some of the videos available on the itunes movie (ahum..music) store. Otherwise, the only reason to visit at late night would be to see products and buy them... sounds cheap to me. Imagine, catching shark week at 2 a.m. in the theatre (if they had one) when you can't fall asleep. Imagine the possibilities.
Moe, that would be nice.
