Cambridgeside Apple Store: Rev. B

Cambridgeside Apple StoreI took a little trip this afternoon down to my local mall to eyeball some LCD monitors at Best Buy. While I was there, I decided to drop in to the local Apple Store. I was in there a couple weeks back and noticed that they’d changed the store layout, but I was pressed for time and didn’t have my camera handy (note to self: never travel without at least $500 worth of electronics on me).

The rear of the store had formerly been home to a theater area that comprised a few hard benches, a lot of open space, and a podium. In pretty much all the times I’d been in there, I’d rarely seen it used other than people loitering for the Genius Bar, which was off to the right hand side.

Now, the Genius Bar occupies the entire rear of the store. It’s much brighter lit, and there’s a more efficient use of space, including more room for people to sit at the bar. There’s been some buzz about a redesign of Apple Stores based on the New York City flagship store, and I wonder if this had anything to do with those plans. I’m not sure, but the changes in the Cambridgeside store are definite improvements to my mind.

I then tried to take a picture comparing the new and old lanyard headphones for the iPod, but literally, the moment I pulled one of the headphones off the rack, a siren started wailing. I froze, thinking that I’d accidentally tripped a security alarm. Then I overheard—over the blaring noise—that the fire alarm had gone off. I decided that it was a good time to leave.

...headphones in-hand, right?

Yeah, I noticed this when I took my iMac to the Easton Apple Store. Exact same setup as Cambridges', strangely enough. Are they not interested enough in giving presentations anymore? God only knows.

They did the same update to the Salem NH store.
