It’s been a long and crazy trip, but it looks as though Boston’s first Apple Store is just about ready to go. Earlier this week, we reported on an issue that had arisen with a neighboring building’s fire escape; the staircase from the building terminated on the roof of the building that Apple planned on demolishing to make way for the store. It seems that has now been resolved, and demolition of the building could go ahead as early as November. Construction is slated to take about a year.
The latest plans to the store show a mainly glass storefront set among stainless steel columns. The three floors of the store will include a Genius Bar, a Studio Bar and an iPod Bar on the third floor, and a second floor theatre; most of the merchandise will be on the ground floor. There will also be a glass spiral staircase connecting the levels, with a skylight on the roof. This will be Apple’s first three floor store in the world.
I’m certainly looking forward to the store’s opening with great anticipation; if the NYC store is any indication, downtown locations are very successful for Apple, and the Back Bay area of Boston is a perfect location for them.
