Apple Store coming to China

applestoreChina.jpgHere in Chicago, every government face and local business is revving up for a final push to win the coveted 2016 Olympics. King…er, Mayor Daley is constantly unveiling plans to improve areas throughout the city that would attract the hundreds of thousands of Olympic spectators, transforming barren city blocks to hopping shop centers.

China’s been doing the same in Beijing, home of the soon-to-be 2008 Olympic games. They’re spending around $40 million to renovate Qianmen Street, a half-mile stretch of land at the south-end of Tiananmen Square. And, according to ifoAppleStore, a new Apple Store is part of the Beijing update:

When the street re-opens in May, it will be the second pedestrian-only shopping street in the city, and will feature 300 shops filling over 800,000 square-feet, including several international retailers such as Starbucks and Addidas. According to architecture sources, Apple’s store will blend in with the Chinese architecture rather than use its standard storefront designs.

At this rate, there’s going to be an Apple Store on every street corner, selling two-for-$2 iMac Value Meals alongside fries and a soda.

Hey, with most Apple shipments coming out of Shanghai, does that mean this store is going to get all the new toys first? Damn.
