Despite being paid only a $1 yearly salary, Steve Jobs has managed to enter the upper echelons of power by becoming the 49th richest American. Forbes puts his worth at 4.9 billion dollars, mostly due to his now sizeable stake in Disney.
The list of 400 richest Americans also includes fellow technologists Bill Gates at #1, natch, Oracle CEO and former Apple board member Larry Ellison at #3, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen at #5, Michael Dell at #9, Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google at #12 and #13, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at #15 (his middle name, in case you were curious, is Anthony), and Google CEO Eric Schmidt tied in a three-way tie for 45th place. Quite a competition this year.
Meanwhile, in related news, I’ve been placed as the 49 millionth richest American which, when you think about it, is actually pretty good for a blogger.

Hey that means there's like 240 million Americans that are poor-er than you! WHOOOO!!!
