It seems awfully early to me, but the 2008 presidential campaign is already heating up. On the Republican side, we’ve seen entries from John McCain and Rudy Giuliani, while the Democrats have been lining up behind Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama—whoa, don’t hit that close button. You’re not on the wrong blog; it’ll all come together in a second. Promise.
On a recent segment of Fox and Friends, Jason Wright of PoliticalDerby.com suggested that the savior of the Democratic party in the ‘08 elections could be ol’ Steve Jobs himself. Why, exactly?
Wright: I bet that’s not a name you hear real often, but let me tell you: Steve Jobs. This guy, he’s a renowned problem-solver, he’s an innovator, he’s known throughout the world for bringing people the people together, for turning the ship around, so to speak, and if you think that the gadgets and gizmos on 24 are cool now, can you imagine Jack Bauer, what he’d carry around under a Steve Jobs administration?Don’t get me wrong—I’m a card-carrying member of the Steve Jobs Fan Club, and there are certainly worse people who could be running the country, but I’m less-than-swayed by an argument about what a fictional character might get to tote, and far more concerned about what I would get to carry around. I mean, a Jobs/Woz ticket running under the slogan: “An iPhone in every pocket?” Now we’re talking here. Though, as the linking article suggests, the whole backdating thing would probably need to be cleared up first.
Course, now it’s only a matter of time before Microsoft copies the idea, and starts touting a Gates/Ballmer campaign. Man. Brings a whole new meaning to platform wars.

Yes, this is an interesting idea, but let me paint a picture of a Steve Jobs State of the Union address:
"Thanks for coming to the State of the Union. We've seen a 30% increase in Mac market share in the country, and a lot of Americans bought iPods for Christmas.
But, that is all we are going to talk about the United States for today. For the next couple of hours, we're going to talk about this new device that has been two and a half years in the making. I just love this device, and I think you will, too.
This...is the iPhone."
Yep, not too hard to imagine, is it? :p
