I love reading interviews of Steve Jobs. Whatever shortcomings the man may have, you have to appreciate the bluntness and confidence with which he puts forward his opinion, even if it may not be entirely true. In his report, Peter Burrows of BusinessWeek reveals that Jobs teased him about his story with Ron Grover that suggested Apple wouldn’t be able to secure the participation of Sony and Universal in their forthcoming movie rentals service. Jobs remarked that the “story looks pretty dumb” now that we know that all the major movie studios had hopped onboard.
Jobs also reveals that even NBC’s Jeff Zucker, the man who pulled his TV shows off the iTunes Store last year and remarked that Jobs had “destroyed the music business”, didn’t create too much trouble when requested by him to participate in the movie rentals service of the iTunes Store. Perhaps of greater significance, if true, is the fact that Jobs is confident that Apple and NBC will “put it back together on the TV thing”. We sure hope they do.
