Rumors of an iPhone; old news?

iPhoneHere’s a great philosophical question for you: at what point does an Apple rumor become fact? How about this, I’ll report on the rumor and you decide what you will take as fact, and what you will take as speculation.

An analyst for Prudential Equity Group, Jesse Tortora, released a note on Monday detailing some of the specs of an Apple iPhone. The specifics were scarce, and his sources unnamed, but he said there will be two models of iPhone—one serving as a smart phone with a keyboard, and the other as simply an iPod-phone hybrid. At least one of the models will include Wi-Fi.

No more details are known, such as the price, looks, or mobile carrier Apple will partner with. The one thing that Tortora does seem sure on, is that it will be released in limited quantities in Q1 2007, probably at Macworld in January.

On a side note, Tortora also is quoted as saying, “while our checks indicate that production of Apple’s new wide screen video iPod will begin in the [December quarter], we do not expect the product to be released until early next year.” So there goes the whole rumor/acurracy thing down the drain—I guess that’s why they call them rumors?

On another side note, check out this fake Apple iPhone ad. It’s pretty sweet.
