Turntable purists have long bashed the idea of DJing on laptops, but the digital DJ has been on the rise, namely because no one wants to lug around crates of vinyls and the requisite two turntables and mixer needed for a traditional DJ set.
Because of the relative ease of mixing a live set on a single laptop, DJ programs like Native Instrument’s Traktor, and Disco Software’s Disco 3.2.5 have been gaining popularity with wannabe mix masters and seasoned pro DJs alike.
Apparently, Apple is planning on making the transition from vinyl cowboy to digital dance-mixer a bit more natural, introducing a number of patents for their multi-touch technology that are in line with creating virtual DJ software for new MacBooks as well as for rumored multi-touch tablet Macs.
The patent has various diagrams depicting the tradition DJ turntable set up, and descriptions such as:
“Like a pair of physical turntables, stylus 844 and stylus 855 can be graphical icon indications of a playback queue, the position of which can be varied by touching the queue on a touch sensitive display screen and dragging the icon to the desired position on the graphical record.”
This is exciting stuff for mixing fans, but as always, the existence of a patent doesn’t mean that Apple has any plans to actually pursue this development.
Keep your fricka-fricka fingers crossed (I know you’re *loving* my DJ text effects).

I prefer my turntables. =p
but more power to yah my wanna be DJ's =p
I think apple is getting this wrong here, there is no substitute for hands on turntables or a midi controller such as the vestax vci-100 to interface with your DJ software.
VINYL FOREVER.
