Yet Another Flickr Client: flickery

flickery1.jpgIf there aren’t enough Flickr clients (like this, or this, or this) for you already—understandable; I like to use five different pieces of software to do the same thing all the time, too—then you’ll be interested in the advent of flickery, a new software front-end app for viewing and uploading photos to Flickr.

Like most new software these days, the app’s emphasis is on fluidity and elegance in the interface, and flickery scores in those departments. It’s very simple, taking cues from iPhoto and using Leopard-specific technology to easily and efficiently navigate Flickr—both your and everyone else’s photos.

Browse all of flickr’s photos, view and comment on pictures of your friends or upload and manage your own photos and favorites. flickery lets you do all that with style….

flickery offers three ways of viewing photos: the miniature-overview of the photos where you can see multiple pictures at a time, the full-window-view which lets you view one photo at a time in better detail and lastly, the full-screen view which lets you really enjoy flickr’s photos.

You can add photos to flickery from your hard drive, by taking a screen shot, or by snapping a photo with an iSight cam. And it offers basic editing tools prior to uploading to Flickr: cropping, rotating, and iPhoto-style effects and manipulation.

But it’s got its drawbacks. The interface is usable, but not entirely intuitive—it took me a few minutes to figure out basic task like taking an iSight snapshot, or applying photo effects. It’s also in beta, so it’s kinda slow and buggy.

flickery is free until the beta expires on June 30, 2008. Not really sure what happens after that. I guess we’ll find out.

This really sucks. You have to bring up the edit menu to rename a file (can't just click the name of the file and have it rename, like in the Finder). You also can't group edit files, not even just tag a group of selected photos.

Worthless as is.
