Tech pundit and blowhard par excellence John Dvorak says dark times are a’coming for OS X:
Thus a cloud is rising over OS X and its future unless Apple makes its boldest move ever: turning OS X into an open-source project. That would make OS X versus Linux become the most interesting battle within the computer scene. With all the attention turned in that direction, there would be nothing Microsoft could do to stem a reversal of its fortunes. While that idea is interesting in and of itself, Dvorak spends little time actually thinking it through, turning instead to more pedantic analysis of Boot Camp, the Apple meme du jour. While his article is titled “Apple Needs to Make OS X Open-Source,” he spends literally two paragraphs on it. Actually, it’s just the same paragraph. Twice. I kid you not. Yes, John, we’ve seen through your little copy-and-paste ruse.
Honestly, I read Dvorak for the same reason I occasionally watch Bill O’Reilly: it’s a good way to get the old blood pumping. But when it comes down to it, John’s just one voice in a big room—a really loud voice, but still there’s just one of him. Also, I haven’t forgotten that he used to write a column for MacUser when it was still a magazine. As far as I’m concerned, that practically makes us colleagues.
