Even more occasionally, I’m allowed to share our kitchen secrets with you folks. So, without carrying this kitchen metaphor any further, I’m here to ask you what portable applications you use? Does anyone out there travel and just carry copies of Firefox, Thunderbird, Adium and others on a flash drive? Or have you tried it? What was your experience? Do you have suggestions for people who might want to try this. Email me or leave something in the comments.

I do install portable application in my flash drive. That's because I don't have a notebook computer and my school computer lacks many applications, like WinRAR, Media players.

My experience on those application is pretty good. First, they are small and handy. Second, they are actually faster than regular application (if it is USB 2.0). Also, you won't leave anything or consume anything on the computer, and you can always bring your setting and bookmarks with you.

I have sinned, I have only used windoze portable apps for school, but most have Mac versions. They are: TorPark (Mac version in beta), VLC, ThunderBird, and Feather Linux (technically Mac availible). Students can gain a lot by using portable apps.

I use Portable Firefox from a flash drive at my school because, well, Internet Explorer blows...

But anyway, It's great. All features work perfect, except for some more advanced "extensions" like Gmail Notifier. Bookmarks, themes, toolbar setup, search and search engines in the toolbar. It's very efficient.
