I’m a rather loyal user of Text Expander at this point, but developer Riccardo Ettore certainly convinced me that TypeIt4Me came of age in OS X after a long history in OS 9 (it was once my favorite piece of shareware). Both products assist typers by expanding predefined abbreviations into longer text. He just released version 4 of the product.
I was curious how he could possibly bring more functionality to the product, but the banner new feature is simply awesome. It automatically corrects your spelling. Existing users may not think it’s a new feature as there already were lists of abbreviations that were common misspellings. This new feature doesn’t rely on that. It actually uses OS X’s built in spelling services to correct misspellings. As Apple updates and tweaks, TypeIt4Me will get those changes. Very cool.
I haven’t gotten a chance to test drive the new version, but I will because I need to see how well it works (though, as we all know, I have impekabal sppeling and never, ever commit a typo). If you’re in the market for one of these utilities, TypeIt4Me deserves more than just a look.
