If you consider yourself a “web 2.0” kind of guy or gal, you may have heard of Twitter, a service that lets you publish whatever you’re doing or thinking at that particular moment to a nice little page. These thoughts are called “tweets.” Mr. John Gruber (I think he has something to do with daringfireball.net) has one, as does a certain Robert Scoble. It’s somewhat like blogging at the lowest common denominator. Updates are limited to 147 characters. It’s quick, simple, and fun.
Mac users also get a perk that Windows owners don’t: a free app called Twitterrific 1.0 developed by Craig Hockenberry of The Iconfactory that provides a perfect interface for Twitter. And when I say perfect, I mean perfect. If you’re the type of person who would be interested in Twitter to begin with, Twitterrific provides an implementation that makes it really difficult to think of any more reasons not to get started. Your tweets and the tweets of your friends are laid out in a list according to when they were posted. At the bottom, you can post a new tweet, directly from the app.
Both Twitter (the service) and Twitterrific (the app) are absolutely free. Go ahead and give it a shot if you haven’t already.
