In what could quite possibly be the best Twitter idea since Darth Vader, Gordon Meyer has posted tips on creating a home automation system using the popular social networking service. That’s right. Twitter as a devilishly easy security system. And I thought I was cool for hooking up Twitter and Quicksilver.
The backbone of this system is a motion detector that is linked to an application called XTension. When the motion detector is triggered, XTension is able to run custom scripts. Gordon simply had to create a script that would post a Tweet. Since Twitter’s posting is done using simple HTTP calls, the creation of the script was not difficult, and the use of Twitterrific gave his notifications a splendid interface for the Mac.
You can read more about his setup here. Has anybody else heard or created any Twitterful hacks that I ought to know about?
