Tube Sock is YouTube to go

Posted by Dan Moren | Wednesday, August 02, 2006 11:15 AM PT

Tube SockI haven’t yet become irreversibly addicted to YouTube, but the day’s still young. One of the downsides to the site is that you really need to be sitting in front of a computer to enjoy the videos, and there’s no easy way to download the videos onto your own machine, or, even better, video iPod.

Fortunately, shareware app Tube Sock is there to save the day. Just paste in the URL of the YouTube movie you want to watch, and Tube Sock will play it back for you. You can even save the video onto your own machine, and Tube Sock will also let you convert the video into a compatible iPod format. Now you can catch up on all that YouTube goodness while you’re traveling. May I recommend Nobody’s Watching?

Tube Sock runs $15; until you register it, it will only convert the first 30 seconds of the video. Which, of course, means that you can watch unlimited 30 second videos for free. Hurrah.
