TubeSock has been a favorite of mine for quite some time now. The application allows you to download any YouTube video just by dragging and dropping the URL into a text field and hitting “Save.” It also supports queuing of several downloads. My only beef with it, apart from its poorly designed icon, is that for the relatively simple job it does, the developer charges $15 for the application.
Enter Tooble. The tiny little application allows you to search the entire YouTube database from within its own interface, look at the featured, popular, recently added videos, top favorites, etc. and download any video you want. Not only does it support queuing, it also fetches your personal favorites on YouTube once you provide it with the username. If you own an iPod or two, you can set it to automatically convert the downloaded videos into the iPod compatible format and add it to your iTunes library (a feature shared by TubeSock too). To top it all off, the icon isn’t half bad and the application itself is absolutely free.
Welcome Tooble, goodbye TubeSock!
