The “Complete Package” really is complete

Front Row Now that we have Leopard, all you readers that read my entry The “Complete Package” is Complete Bull can now gloat about my complete ignorance. Upon installing Leopard, one of the first problems I had was that the keystroke I normally used for LaunchBar, command-escape, would invoke this other app. You know it: Front Row. That’s right. It fired right up, making my concerns about support moot.

However, while we know it works on all Leopard supported Macs, I don’t know what to think of the tech specs page at Apple.

Front Row requires a Mac with built-in IR and an Apple Remote.

If you interpret that literally, you’re not jumping up and down on your chair, pointing at Apple, shouting “Liars! Dirty filthy liars!” This was true initially in Tiger, but hasn’t been from the beginning for Leopard. I’m not complaining that I have Front Row running on all my Macs now. Quite the contrary, I can see myself using it regularly (especially once you have Perian installed). Now I hear the sound of nails on chalkboard every time I visit that page because it’s outright wrong.

You may now commence calling me an alarmist for the original piece.

Still, you need a remote.

I'd hate to spend $3000 on a top-of-the-line Mac Pro and have to use the keyboard for Front Row.

Hey! That's the wrong Front Row. It doesn't look like that anymore.
