Sure, MobileMe lets you sync bookmarks between multiple computers if you’re using Safari, but how can you keep your bookmarks neat and tidy across multiple computers with other browsers?
For instance, let’s assume someone has say, a PC for work and it sure would be great if the bookmarks stored on their home computer’s browser could also be accessible at the office—hey, they could be work-related bookmarks. We’ll pretend they are.
Instead of recreating the bookmarks all over again on the work PC, I’ve been using Foxmarks for the past year or so, in conjunction with Firefox as an add-on. After installing it on the necessary computers and setting up a Foxmarks account, I uploaded a bunch of bookmarks to Foxmark’s servers. From there, I was able to synchronize them across any computer running Foxmarks—my MacBook, my parents’ iMac, and other random computers that may or may not be PCs.
Recently, Foxmarks added a new “Sync Profiles” feature for synchronizing different sets of bookmarks. Bookmarks can also be accessed on web-enabled devices (Blackberry phones, iPhone, etc.) through Foxmark’s mobile site. Considering how half the time, I have to remind myself to bookmark something in the first place, this add-on has proved to be very useful for day-to-day Internet hijinks.
