Second season of My Dream App on its way

My Dream AppA show’s sophomore seasons can be its make-or-break moment. Many a show that has started out with a promising first season can lose its way in the second year. Premises become trite and boring, the fire goes out of the writers, stars turn out to be evil divas who demand that their trailers be stocked only with rare truffles from the indigenous forests of South America, et cetera.

So it is with cautious interest that I greet the news that the My Dream App team is prepping for a second round. The first round of the competition certainly generated a lot of news throughout the Mac community, but as we’ve yet to see the fruits of the labor from that iteration, it’s hard to be gaga over the next step. However, according to a post on the MDA blog, round two will launch sometime after at least some of the round one apps are released.

Still, if you’re a developer who’s interested in participating in the eventual creation of the second round of dream applications, here’s your chance. Casasanta has announced that MDA2 will include a “developer competition.” Video interviews will be conducted with interested devs, with some of them taking place at WWDC, and when the second round begins, the MDA voters will decide which developers will make the winning apps.

An interesting idea, though I’m a little wary of users voting on developers, since I feel like most users (myself included) have as little idea of what really goes into creating an application as what goes into sausages. That’s not a bad thing, either. Anyway, if you’re interested in developing for MDA2, hit up the blog post above for the full details.
