It’s pretty clear that our good friend Daniel Jalkut of Red Sweater software loves surprises. So much so that we’re rather afraid to go out with him ever again, after that time he ensnared us in a tiger pit (“Surprise!” he shouted gleefully, as he danced around the cleverly concealed trap).
But some of his surprises are better than others. This morning, Red Sweater announced its second new project in the span of just a few weeks (the last being blogging client Mars Edit): Black Ink. Daniel had teased us with the existence of the app a few weeks ago on his blog, but I think it’s pretty fair to say nobody had a clue what the program was.
Black Ink is a client for crossword puzzles that lets you download and complete the puzzles from the likes of the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal. The program began life as MacXword, which I downloaded back in the day for doing puzzles on long plane trips. Black Ink even lets you print out puzzles if you prefer to remain untethered from the computer. It’ll run you $24.95, and it’s way better than being stuck in a tiger pit.
I’ve got to say, though: between MarsEdit and Black Ink, Daniel’s going to be looking for a four letter word for “occupied” pretty soon.
