Many publishers may have moved on to InDesign, but QuarkXpress is still chugging along. Quark started shipping version 8 yesterday. The latest version was announced back in May but is just now making itself available. New and fancy are a new interface for high end page layout and Flash authoring tools.
Let’s face it, we all need more Flash. More memory sucking, browser slowing, CPU hogging Flash. On the other hand, the new version does make interface changes that are useful for users like live picture orientation and scaling control, the ability to drag and drop from a variety of picture sources as well as the ability to drag and drop into other applications.
Finally, I have to pause at:
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later, G4 or better (including Intel), 1GB RAM, 1GB hard disk space and DVD-ROM drive. Internet access is required for activation.
Internet access is required? I really hope not. Considering how much the software costs, I’d hope you could call a phone number to activate.
Quark is crap. I will however try this one and see if it is better than InDesign. Non native apps are really getting on my nerves these days. I wonder when Adobe CS5 is going to be out. Heard its going to be built completely on Cocoa.
Expensive? How much so? I don't want to waste my time taking that big step unless i know the $$$. Otherwise, into the 86 file for shoddy reporting...
It is NOT shipping. It is backordered
