If you’re half as excited about Mac OS X as I am, you have dreams about the next version of OS X. October seems like it’s years away. This is the longest we’ve had to wait for a new release yet. Despite the fact that many were disappointed in this latest keynote, Leopard still has a lot to offer. I may be crying into my cheerios about the low level of ZFS support, but the rest of the features are nothing to sneeze at.
If you are holding your credit card, willing to swipe through any card reader if it means that you can get the next version that much sooner, I have some good news for you. Amazon is now taking pre-orders. It’s available for the $129 list price, but comes with a pre-order price guarantee, meaning you’ll get the lowest price they sell it for until the date of release. You probably won’t get the OS any sooner than through Apple, but you’ll have the peace of mind that comes with having your order in.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
The only time I've seen Amazon with a cheaper price than Apple was because of a $50 rebate for Jaguar. I seriously doubt there is an advantage to pre-ordering especially with Apple's price fixing.
@Link33, I’ve seen all types of software cheaper on amazon.com. By all types, I mean iWork and iLife. I bought both 2006 versions form amazon and saved $20-30 when compared to Apple. Plus no tax, plus free shipping. Boxed and new editions. Same with .Mac. I renew via a box bought off amazon because it saves me yet another $30. I’ve always bought my OS upgrade via CompUSA, so I can’t speak for OS pricing on Amazon.
Don't forget the family pack if you have more than one Mac - http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Version-10-5-Leopard-Family/dp/B000BR0NPO/ref=sr_1_7/002-6822389-9972015?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1181841347&sr=1-7
interesting, it's already #2 within the best selling software....
