Precipitate shines a Spotlight on Google Docs

Seek and ye shall find—or so they say. Spotlight’s pretty good at helping you locate that document you wrote last week, but saved in some weird place with a totally non-descriptive filename (what, you don’t do that?).

But what about things that aren’t on your computer? More and more people are relying on web-based programs to store files, such as Google Docs, to work on files in a collaborative environment. Sure, you can go and search Google Docs in your web browser, but wouldn’t it be nice if you could find things from the comfort of your own desktop?

Thanks to Precipitate, a Google Code project, you can search your Google Docs or Google Bookmarks directly from the Spotlight dialog box. I gave it a quick try, and it worked pretty darn well for both my personal account and even (when I gave it my login credentials) for Macworld’s own private Google Docs setup (though that took longer to index).
