Perhaps Tab the soda might be a better idea

Tab%20cans.jpgAh, patent lawsuits—they make for so much entertainment sometimes. For instance, IP Innovation LLC and parent company, Technology Licensing Corporation filed a lawsuit against Apple, Inc. because of Tiger’s use of tabs. The lawsuit, filed April 18 in Marshall, Texas, claims that Apple, “engaged in ‘willful and deliberate’ infringement of a computer control patent by selling its current Tiger operating system” (talk about a mouthful).

The plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial and seeking reparations exceeding $20 million, according to lawsuit papers. As always, there’s more:

It also seeks an injunction that would prevent the California-based defendant from infringing on the patent, essentially blocking Apple from continuing to sell its current edition of Mac OS X and any future editions that might draw on the supposed infringements.

Intriguing…and midly annoying.

OK, so when will Firefox, Opera, and MS be sued for tabs?

I love the original article's reference to "the operating system’s nearly universal use of tabs." I'm so like "get your tabs outta my face, Tiger" with all the Safari tabs and the ... uh ..., well I open a lot of tabs in Safari. Now OS 9, seriously, that had a lot of tabs.
