Holy Cow. As the resident web developing aficionado ‘round these parts, the release of Coda, Panic Software’s new “One Window Web Development” environment for OS X, has me all hot and bothered. I haven’t determined whether or not that’s a good thing or not. This app does everything. Right now, I use VirtueDesktops with three tabs. A main desktop that contains my browser, a desktop for TextMate, and a desktop for the Terminal. Coda contains all of these, as well as a CSS editor that I dare say gives CSSEdit, the app I wrote about earlier today, a run for its money.
You’ll also find an area for references, the FTP support of Transmit (a feature that TextMate painfully lacks), and better support for creating actual web site than TextMate, BBEdit, or any other text editor you can find out there. It looks pretty amazing to me. I’ll have to see how the app works on an everyday basis, but from how it looks right now, I’m worrying that all the time I spent creating snippets in TextMate may have just been mootified.
I really need to spend some more time with this application before I can really let you know whether or not it’s worth your hard earned dollar, so standby for that. In the meantime, I must say that this app looks ridiculously promising, and I’m looking forward to playing with it in the coming days. If you want to give it a spin, you can go to its project page at panic.com/coda.

My faith in Panic is such that I was pretty much ready to plonk down my Credit Card before the demo was even done downloading. Then I looked at the price page and was totally blown away. Retails for $99, minus a discount, minus a Transmit discount (nice touch)? Are you joking? That's over twice what I would have assumed this thing would cost... bloody hell, I think they've made a mistake there, but we'll see... I'll test if to for a few days to judge whether I think it's worth $80
