OmniFocus is not so vapory

OmniFocus Just because I’ve decided that you don’t watch enough video, I’m exposing you to yet another longish movie. Many people have been impatiently anticipating Omni Group’s upcoming software application OmniFocus (being carefully guided by Ethan J. A. Schoonover, author of Kinkless GTD, and Merlin Mann, our personal hero).

They’ve finally started releasing information. There’s even a screencast of Ethan using and explaining the application. If you’re a fan GTD or simply overwhelmed with all the stuff you have to do, you need to check it out. However, I encourage everyone to take a look because you may not realize how helpful this neat little application may end up being. It’s also awful purdy (which I personally have come to expect from Omni).

Because of the wonkiness of kGTD (not to knock the quality, it’s very clever, just hard to maintain), I let my use fall to the wayside and use my own haphazard system which is pretty much failing me. They’re hoping to release a beta soon (fingers crossed). The final will sell for $39.95 with a discount for OmniOutliner Pro owners (discount here I come!). That’s pretty reason, methinks. Are any of you anticipating this software release as well?

I'm eagerly awaiting. Currently, I'm working with iGTD, but I would love to give the predecessor of my first gtd app a try.

I think I am interested in it, but my use will be determined by the iPhone. What I need is a To Do application with a bit more teeth than that of the current iteration within iCal. The one built into the new Mail app within Leopard looks like it might be enough to satisfy me. All I want to do is throw in some contacts, maybe add a couple check boxes, etc. Whether or not Apple carries that over into the iPhone’s version of Mail remains to be seen. I would think so. Or perhaps I should say I would hope so. Whatever I use has to be available on both my Mac and my iPhone. I’ve gone this long without a real To-Do list, I can certainly wait and see what my iPhone provides me.

I'm using iGTD right now too, but I find it a bit more confusing than the OmniFocus I saw demoned in the video, although that may be because the former currently has more features. With luck, the two should generate some healthy competition.

I also went to Apple's suggestion page and recommended that, when Leopard comes out in October, they begin to ship new Macs with OmniFocus rather than OmniOutliner. I doubt anyone lies awake at night saying, "Now if I just had and good outliner program, my life would be complete." A lot of people fret about how to organize their lives.

Apple can't really claim Macs help us organize our lives until they ship with a good Getting Things Done application. iCal is fine for dates, but falls seriously short in prioritizing tasks.

Yip - bring it on - kgtd is good, but produces too many artifacts
