It’s been a manic day for Office for Mac fans. We started the day being told about Office 2004’s incompatibility with Office 2007’s files. Tim Gaden made a fine mess of Microsoft’s docx file format. I haven’t seen corruption like that since System 7.
Luckily, that simply won’t do at Microsoft and their MacBU has announced at Mac Mojo that they will be delivering converters in the late March/early April. Considering that’s only a couple months after Office 2007 for Windows will be released, most people will be just fine.
Converters only go so far though and I’m wondering how painful using 2004 will be even after the converters are available for download.

MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
One of the things that us Mac users may be able to do is change the filename extension from .docx, .xlsx or .pptx to .zip - the new formats are all zip compressed.
Inside, it may be a little less incompatible gibberish, though don't take my word for it - I haven't actually tried this out just yet!
That's just wrong.
Boo Microsoft!
