Norton AntiVirus releases Dual Protection for Mac

Posted by David Dahlquist | Monday, March 10, 2008 4:35 PM PT

norton antivirus.jpgFor those of you running Windows on your Mac, Symantec has introduced Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac. The software package combines Norton AntiVirus 2008 for Windows with Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac, making it ideal for Mac users who run both OS X and Windows.

Now some of you may not have owned a PC before and are thus scratching your heads wondering “what’s virus protection?”. Well I’m not going to get into that right now, but be aware that even while the efficacy of anti-virus software on a Mac is debatable, if you run Windows on your Mac (via BootCamp or virtualization software), then buddy you better be using anti-virus software. Just trust me on this.

The package costs $69.95 and includes a one-year subscription for virus updates.

So I'd be paying $70 dollars for something I don't need (Mac viruses are pretty much nonexistent) with something I absolutely need bundled with it? Why not just get the one I absolutely need (Windows) and not worry about the one I don't need (Mac)?

Or skip the "one I absolutely need" and get a Windows Anti-Virus that plays nice with other Windows programs and costs half that price...

Seriously, I don't use Windows much, but I haven't heard anything good about Norton AntiVirus for Windows in years.

It's weird that Intego's been using the "Dual Protection" name for more than a year, and that Symantec just hijacked it...

Norton Virus BUY NOW! infect both sides at of your computer at once!

I have cleaned Norton off about 5 computers so far and instantly doubled their speed. I hate the product. Seems to be a lot more about marketing than anything else.
