Nisus Writer Pro: Public beta time!

Posted by Kate Marshall | Friday, April 13, 2007 11:30 AM PT

NWP screenshot.jpgAh, Nisus Writer Express-if it came down to a fight between you and Microsoft Word, I’d bet on you simply because you’re just so scrappy. Now NWE is joined by his big brother, Nisus Writer Pro, which is now available for download as a public beta from the Nisus Software website.

Nisus Writer Pro offers new features like bookmarks for cross-reference and document navigation; attribute-sensitive search; and a nifty-sounding Table of Contents feature:

Use our Table of Contents feature to navigate your documents. Once your document is complete you can automatically generate a full Table of Contents with page numbers.
Oh, that totally would have been helpful when I used Nisus Writer Express to write my thesis two years ago.

Writing dork that I am, I’ve already downloaded the beta to try out. It sure beats pining for Leopard.

As much as one hates to mention it, Word has had this feature for many years along with things like Index creation. I'm happy to admit that Word contains a lot of features that people probably will never use and therefore never miss but the Table of Contents feature is one that I've used a lot. In this respect it is a considerable shame that the competition is taking so long to catch up.
