We knew some sort of Final Cut announcement was likely in the offing at today’s NAB event in Vegas, but we have to admit, Apple, you blindsided us with your announcement of Final Cut Server. Billed as a cross-platform way to do digital content management Final Cut Server integrates with Final Cut Pro, naturally, to improve the workflow for digital content creators. CBS2/KCAL 9 in Los Angeles has been testing Final Cut Server in their production environment. Final Cut Server also includes compression capability, keyword searching, and support for over 100 file types.
Final Cut Server will cost $999 for 10 concurrent users, or $1999 for an unlimited license. It’ll ship this summer. We’ll have more details as they become available.
