Backup is the unfortunate, but necessary, byproduct of us requiring imperfect computers to, well, function. But backup doesn’t have to be hard. One easy way to do a backup is to do it online and automate it, which eliminates the price of buying another drive and the annoyance of manually backing up. One service that does both of these things, Mozy, has been around for a while now, but it’s been Windows-only. But that changes today, as Mozy has now released a Mac OS X beta client.
I tried to test the Mozy client to see just how well it worked. Setting up a Mozy account and downloading and installing the client was all quick and easy, but I got stuck when I tried to create a backup set. Every time I tried to save one, it still wouldn’t show up in my backup set list, making it impossible for me to choose files to backup. After repeated attempts, I still could not fix this. But hey, Mozy’s OS X client just came out in beta, so I’ll at least wait for another revision or two before I pass judgement. So for now, back to a good ol’ Firewire drive backup.
