You may not be a fan of Apple’s Mail.app (though I can’t imagine why not). Maybe Thunderbird is more your speed. Now being presented as a product of Mozilla Messaging, this latest version shows the latest evolution of that email client that lived within the depths of Netscape.
I took a quick look at the client and you can definitely tell it’s early in its development cycle. Command-W doesn’t close windows. It just makes the File menu flash. New features include the ability to use OS X’s built in Address Book, being a native Cocoa application, and not much else.
Overall, it’s a fairly unimpressive release. I hope they’re adding features later. We’ll revisit this alternative as development continues.

It's an Alpha release. It has tabs, better look, Cocoa and the ability to tap your address book. Give it time, Wait for Beta, and eventually the full release and then knock it when it's fully release. I "kind of like" Apple Mail, but I don't think it's nearly as good as a full feature email client.
I for one, look forward to the full, complete version of it, so I can "poof" mail out of my dock.
Mail is great as a lightweight email application but I really wish it would do HTML email properly. I can receive HTML emails, but I can't create them (text and Rich Text being the only options), unless I want to use a Stationary (*eek!*), and that's just a bit rubbish. I love the speed of Mail and its search functions (that's the reason why I stick with it) but it's far from perfect. Unfortunately, no email application is perfect but here's hoping that Thunderbird takes steps in that direction.
