Microsoft, in a rare moment of clarity, has released an update to Office that adds Sync Services and Spotlight support to Entourage. The update is available at Microsoft’s download website. They’ve also added a minor update to Microsoft Messenger.
I’m so psyched to see this. Part of the reason that I abandoned Entourage was that it had no synchronization to speak of (and I don’t count using a Palm device as a good method). It also locks you into their product, even if part of Apple’s offerings becomes more palatable. By using Sync Services, that data can be synced between Macs as well as accessed by other applications.
From what I’ve read, I expect you’ll be able to see that data in Apple’s Address Book and iCal. You’ll also be able to sync that data with your Palm device via the latest version of Missing Sync, that also decided to make the move to Sync Services as well. I’m more convinced every day that Sync Services is one of the most useful additions to OS X added in Tiger.
