Make your keys pop with Keyclick

People who’ve used the Mac longer than I’ve been alive will undoubtedly remember Apple’s esteemed Extended Keyboard and its unique clickity sound that most of today’s keyboards lack. No, the app I’ll get to in a minute doesn’t reproduce that sound, but it may inject some excitement into your typing adventures.

Keyclick is a $5 preference pane which adds lively popping sounds to your key presses and mouse scrolling. At first glance, this may seems like silly functionality, but for some people, I think it could really enhance the typing experience—especially on more silent notebook keyboards.

There are some nice customization options, too. You can adjust not only the volume but also the pitch of the sounds effects. Furthermore, Keyclick can play a different sound when modifier keys like Shift, Caps Lock or Command are in an action, so you instantly know whether you’re typing regular characters or a keystroke. Finally, you can specify apps in which you wish the audio feedback to be disabled.

To see if it’s your cup of tea or not, why not download the 21-day trial?

It could be cool to have some kind of different typewriters samples bank: "Old Remington", "IBM selectric", etc.

I wonder if you could reproduce the clack-sproing sound that the Mac Plus keyboard made ;)
