Make sure your songs rate, with Funes

funes.jpgWhat is with our obsession with rating things? Movies, books, blog posts, songs, Olympic figure skating routines—can’t we just give them a slap on the back and a hearty handshake for a job well done? I mean, at least give ‘em credit for trying their best, even if it’s not a five-star, two thumbs up, perfect ten effort, right?

If you’re a compulsive rater, but hate digging into iTunes to assign a star rating for all your songs, here’s a quick, easy, and free way of doing just that. Funes is a little app that sits in your menu bar; when you want to rate the song that’s currently playing, just hit the menu and choose the requisite number of stars. The rating will instantly be reflected in your iTunes library. That’s all there is to it.

…I feel kind of like this blog post is kind of short, but there’s really nothing else in Funes to discuss. Oh, I think the guy who makes it flies planes, according to his about page. And likes to get drunk. Hopefully not at the same time.

I've never ever rated a song. Think about it. You spend so much time rating your 6000 song library, only to have to change it later on when all your 5 star songs become your 4 star songs. Seems kinds pointless to me. I know what I like and I know what I keep around but don't listen to all the time. I don't need a star rating to help me. But that's just one man's opinion. How about you readers.? Do you find star ratings useful or just one more thing you have to manage?

I rate songs. I have found very many uses for such, but hated to use iTunes for it. I stumbled across SizzlingKeys and now when I hear something I want to rate I just hit the hot keys. Easy. Nice. http://yellowmug.com/sk4it/

I knew a guy who used the stars to denote genres. Weird.

I like to rate songs and albums. I have smart playlists that use star rating critera in their definitions. For example, one smart playlist is made up of the 500Mb of 4- and 5-star songs that are the least receltly played. I sync it to my iPhone and I've always got good music that I haven't heard in a while.

Just click and hold the iTunes Icon in the Dock and rate it right there... Why do we need Funes for that? :D
