Leopard pounces on October 26th

Posted by Dan Moren | Tuesday, October 16, 2007 6:45 AM PT

Leopard CountdownHonestly, I’m just happy that Derik can relax. He was starting to get a bit out of hand. When the subject of Leopard came up, you could see his eyes brimming with tears. Like Apple was deliberately holding back information, just to hurt him.

But now everything’s right with the world. You have to make it through but ten more days (and, as Apple’s homepage informs me, 8 hours, 23 minutes, and 55 seconds) before you can take home the world’s most advanced operating system. Leopard will go on sale at 6PM on the 26th at Apple Stores and authorized resellers, or you can opt to pre-order it from the online store for $129.

One disappointing note for those of the academic persuasion: previous OS X upgrades have had a substantial discount, going for just $69; Leopard, unfortunately, will only net you a $13 discount of $116. What gives, Apple? Where’s the love for the poor students who can barely afford beer and pizza?

I got the state discount. $114 out the door. Now for the waiting game.

Boy, am I seeing a list of things that point towards a "money hungry" Apple. I understand is a business and all, but come on. Why change the educational discount?

Anyhow, I preordered my copy and used my iPhone credit.

Welcome home kitty... Grrr!!!

A little digging finds that the Family Pack doesn't get the education discount at all! Regardless, my MacBook will be getting a new engine on October 26th!

That is awful that Apple is giving students such an awful discount. Way to take for granted, Apple, what is not only one of your largest existing customer bases but also probably the biggest factor in your increasing hold on the computer market. (insert sarcastic slow clap here)

I'm 32, and I feel like a kid on Christmas eve. These next 10 days are going to feel like an eternity!!!

Too bad that I will only pay $13 less than the regular price. I guess being in school and getting a diploma is worth 1 less thing.
But, anyway, I've been waiting for this releases a long time and I seriously cannot wait any longer.

10 more days.

I had no choice but to upgrade to Tiger last month. Will Apple offer a discounted price in my situation?

Amazon has it on sale right now for $109. Go pre-order it through daring fireball and give Gruber a kickback.

I wish Apple would, for once ,offer up free OS systems for people. All the other companies have done this at one time or another.I get so tired of all the big hype and commotion of a new OS,and then only later do they put a price tag on it.What gives Steve?
One good thing about the "paid upgrade" is people will be able to know where they put their money. At least this is not a Bill Gates verson of OS for Apple.I don't mind paying for the OS on occasion that have all the media hype.
Good Job Apple!! Keep on,keeping on Stevie.
