So overall, Daylight Savings Time went off without much of a fuss last week, thanks to various computer companies releasing software patches that would ensure your MacBook or iMac jumped from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. in the blink of an eye on March 11. Even universities got in on the fun by releasing software patches for older operating systems, who might have thought that DST would always take place in April forever and ever.
Then there’s your third-party applications, like Meeting Maker. I decided to export some of my Meeting Maker events as .ics files and stick them in iCal so they would show up on my iPod (as opposed to manually creating them in iCal all over again— hello, time suck!) Then a funny thing happened: the new meetings were all pushed forward one hour. A 2 p.m. meeting in Meeting Maker now shows up as a 3 p.m. event in iCal’s calendar view. The culprit? Meeting Maker’s DST rules, which still believe that clocks won’t spring forward until April 1, 2007 (see photo attached to the entry). Ouch. I’m tempted to dig around on the interweb for a patch but I’m more tempted to let things lie until April 1 and see if iCal and Meeting Maker will suddenly live in harmony and I can get back to exploiting my iPod’s PDA functions (take that, iPhone! You won’t ensnare me with your smart phone talents!…for now). Has anyone else noticed oddities like this with their non-Apple programs?
[edited to fix picture]
Exchange required a fix to move appointments. Not surprisingly, it moved some it shouldn't have and it didn't move some it should have. My personal favorite is when the web client showed the wrong time, but my posted free/busy information was correct.
Worse than that, the raw text in meeting notices was inconsistent. Evolution users were seeing meeting notices for the wrong time that appeared in their calendars correctly when they accepted them but then saw the meeting a a third time in the web client. It's like Microsoft got bored simply being a screw up and wanted to fail in spectacularly confusing ways.
Well my ipod calendar is now an hour off! and cannot find a fix (syncs with ical which has the right times)
I have the same problems with MeetingMaker. Unfortunately, you can't get a patch from PeopleCube unless you purchase a new support contract.
Problems here with my Treo since the 10.4.9 update:
Both are in a loop which duplicate items always with 1 hour difference after each sync.
This, even if I made the DST update on both devices, very annoying.
