Google has quietly (even sans Google Blog posting) released Google Notifier. It replaces Gmail Notifier and adds in Google Calendar notifications. You can disable the calendar part in case you want to go old school (or you use iCal like I do).
This should be a big aid to those of your that only like access to your email and calendar when you’re online (I kid, but I’m serious at the same time). I actually use my Gmail account for mailing lists (Gmail’s conversation threading is terrific for this) but I’m not sure I’ll use the Calendar portion. Don’t forget to get Gmail+Growl 2.0 for Growl notification hotness.
