Man, as much as most of us around these parts don’t need something like Geek Squad, there’s just something cute and hopeful about young kids learning how to use Garage Band that makes me want to just high five them all, y’know?
At the first Geek Squad Summer Academy, sponsored by Best Buy and Magic Johnson (yes, that Magic Johnson) Enterprises, 84 kids from Compton this week have been learning how to repair computers, create music using Garage Band, and make websites.
Reports the LA Times:Not everyone at camp aspires to geekdom. Seventh-grader Esmeralda Escobedo of Compton wants to be a model when she gets older. She said she was at camp because her mother wanted her to be able to fix the computer at home when it broke. But Satyee Billingsley, who was helping Esmeralda build a computer from scratch, spoke the company line. “I might want to work at Best Buy,” she said.
No word on if they’re training the kids to become Mac bloggers. If so, I need to look for a new job, and fast.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
