Fusion goes final

VMWare FusionAs noted last week, VMWare has officially released Fusion onto the virtual streets of the Maciverse. Fusion, in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last eleventy hojillion years, is a virutalization product that lets you run other Operating Systems—such as the Dread OS Windows—on your lovely Macintosh.

The full version of Fusion is available for $79.99 from VMWare’s store, and if you snag it quick, there’s a $20 rebate available. If you’re not sure yet whether or not you want to shell out, you can always download the free 30-day trial to give it a run through its paces (you’ll still need a copy of the OS you want to install).

And, of course, the battle for domination of the virtualization space will continue to rage as long as Parallels and VMWare are trading salvos, so we see this as the beginning of a beautiful rivalry.

Does anyone know if Fusion can read the virtual disks created by Parallels? Is there any way to migrate from one product to the other?

I would consider using Fusion, but it would be a pain to recreate the virtual disks I already have.

2. No way to show the start menu when running in unity mode

3. launched applications in Unity mode dont all show up in the dock

4. Minimized apps to the dock do not reflect what was on the screen

5. applications created in .NET that use transparency look odd in Unity mode
6. when Fusion opens, the mouse speed goes way up until i switch to Mac and then back to Windows
