Derik’s been keeping us updated on much of the software, um, updated for Leopard compatibility. So far the list looks good.
‘Cept one thing. It seems FileMaker, the de-facto database development app for the Mac, isn’t quite prepared. Like a student who doesn’t do his homework on time, the folks at FileMaker aren’t ready for the Leopard release — and earlier today emphasized that FileMaker is not yet Leopard-compatible.
We are currently working on Leopard compatibility updates for FileMaker Pro 9, FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced, FileMaker Server 9 and FileMaker Server 9 Advanced. At this time FileMaker does not recommend the use of FileMaker 9 products on computers running Mac OS X Leopard.
Macworld originally linked to a post on the company’s website with this comment, but the page has since been pulled. I did a search for Leopard on their support site and came up with this:
We continue to test FileMaker 9 products under Leopard. We will have a compatibility announcement when Leopard is released October 26th.
A slight change of tone — instead of bluntly saying “we’re not compatible” as they did earlier in the day, they push the (presumably) bad news off until tomorrow.
What’s particularly interesting about all of this is that Apple actually owns FileMaker. It’s like the kid who isn’t doing his homework is the teacher’s son. Maybe FileMaker’s doing it as some sort of juvenile I’m-my-own-person kinda rebellion. You know kids these days.
