Distraction-free writing at nearly half the cost

Posted by Scott Silverman | Tuesday, April 10, 2007 2:28 PM PT

WriteRoomDan introduced MacUser to WriteRoom, an extremely simple (fullscreen) word processing application which blocks out all OS distractions (ie: Safari, iCal, Mail, iTunes, iChat). This could certainly be a real productivity increaser for those of you with short attention spans.

When WriteRoom went official with version 2.0, it also gained a $24.95 price tag. Not unreasonable, but nothing to brush off either. For today only, however, MacUpdate is offering WriteRoom 2.1 for $14.95—that’s 40% off. If you were thinking about getting yourself a copy of WriteRoom, or think you may want one after reading this post, you’d better act fast. Savings like this are only around for about six more hours.

Looks an awful lot like the word processor I used as a kid in the '80s. As in, a dedicated computer that only did word processing. It used 8" floppy disks and had a vertical green-on-black screen just like that.

or you could use wordpad in conjunction with the software called "think". -- both of which are free.

OR... better yet, why not just use the terminal pico editor? There's a thought.
