Coda is driven by the Subetha Engine

Coda Like a schoolgirl with her very first crush, Pat can’t stop twittering about Coda. Around the web, I saw some screenshots that featured collaboration. I couldn’t help but think about the unbelievably awesome SubEthaEdit. Its collaboration feature is really hard to appreciate until you use it.

I thought of it for good reason. Coda uses Coding Monkeys’ Subetha Engine. This sweet piece of kit allows people in a local network, or even across the internet, to edit the same text document at the same time, in real-time. It’s a little disconcerting at first to see text changing as you’re typing, but once you get used to it, it’s a really powerful tool.

I wasn’t sure what to think of Coda when it was first released (as I’m not a web developer at heart), but all these details that are in the application just go to reinforce how it really is a classic Panic application, setting the bar for other applications in its market. Now I’m a little curious if BBEdit or TextMate will sport this ability in future versions. I certainly wouldn’t complain.
